Back in November, Tony and I were able to find reasonably priced tickets to Arizona. We decided that it would be fun to take the girls on their first plane ride to visit Papa and Nana at their 'snowbird' home in Surprise, AZ. We booked our tickets and did not share our news with them until Christmas Day! To our surprise, we discovered that there would be a lot of other family members in AZ at the same time to help Aunt Shirley celebrate her 60th birthday! Bring on the family fun we said!
Our plane left out of Billings on January 24th. What an exciting time for the girls this flight was...all I have to say is thank goodness for goldfish, fruit snacks, and movies on the laptop and ipod! We arrived pretty late into Mesa and were greeted by Nana in the airport. The girls took off running across the baggage claim area squealing "Nana" at the top of their lungs, for ALL to hear and see. It brought tears to my eyes, and smiles to many bystanders surrounding us!
Overall we had a joyous week in Arizona. We weren't greeted with the warmest of temperatures or clearest of skies as we would have liked, but we still had a great time. Warren and DeeDee's house is surrounded by tons of family friendly parks, so needless to say, the girls got their fair share of playtime on slides, swings, and grass during our stay. Some other highlights of the trip were getting to swim one afternoon before the rains came through, our visit to the zoo, picking fresh lemons from the park trees and having homemade lemonade, visiting with extended family we haven't seen in quite some time, sitting fireside in the evenings on the back porch warming our toes, making some purchases at the infamous swap meet, and enjoying some great meals surrounded by lots of laughter with those we care so much about.
What a wonderful time we had down south. Now the girls have a better picture of what Arizona means when Papa and Nana are down there! If only Papa and Nana had a better picture of how much snow they will be returning to when they come back home! (Heehee!) We love you and are excited for your return to the north country! The sleds are still out and ready for you to join us!
I have an issue with remembering to take pictures during momentous trips like this. I have a few to share, but thankfully I was able to get some pictures from DeeDee to share with you all as well. Enjoy!
Our plane ride. Thankful for goldfish, fruitsnacks, Ipods, laptops, headphones, etc. :)
We made it to AZ! A picture of the girls and I in front of our airplane!
