Five and Six Months

I know, I know.
Go ahead and give it to me straight.
I'm a horrible mother.

I let time and the piddliness (is that a word?) of life get the best of me.  I totally missed Aleah's blog post for five months, and she is six months and one week old today.  CRAZY!!!

I do feel sorry for Aleah.
She has officially gotten that 'second child treatment' that you hear mothers with two or more kids talk about.

You know, the one where you don't mean to neglect them from time to time, but because of the first child running rampant all over the house, you do happen to lose track of things and miss the chance to document some of the second child's milestones.

So Aleah, this is your mother, apologizing to you publicly.
I'm sorry for the delay of your five month post.  Please forgive me!
(...as she takes a little break from playing to look across the room at me and smile!  Phew...I think I've just been forgiven!)

OKAY, so on to the post celebrating you and your accomplishments at five AND six months!

6-7-11    Five Months Old
At five months old you:
-are so long we had to get out the 6-9 months clothes bin.
-talk incessantly once you get going.
-roll with ease.
-have found your toes and suck on them, or the socks your wearing.
-giggle so easily when tickled.  Sometimes you'll even giggle when I'm wiping clean your pooped-on hinder...that's how ticklish you are!
-are beginning to enjoy peek-a-boo.
-are an owl, observing EVERYTHING, cranking that head around from side to side.
-turn into pure smiles when you see your big sister Natalie.
-tend to put anything you can get your hands on into your mouth, including the face of the person that may be holding you.  I have to keep your fingernails trimmed short because of how sharp they get when grabbing ahold of my face!
-'swim' like crazy in the bathtub, kicking those long little legs of yours.  Especially when you share it with Nat.
-definitely love the outdoors.  Many days have been spent in the stroller or on a blanket soaking up some sun and fresh air.

7-7-11  Six Months Old (also Dad and Mom's 4th Anniversary)
HAPPY (first) HALF BIRTHDAY!
At six months old you:
-are in the 98th percentile for your length and in the 34th for your weight.
-have one tooth through and a second one just starting to pop through.
-have tried cereal numerous times and are just not a fan. Same goes for sweet potatoes.
-do like prunes, bananas, and mixed fruit.
-are learning to master  your 'pincer' skills (thumb and index finger)
-finally slept for a decent night, from 10pm until 5:30am.  Best night so far.  This was due to a FULL bottle of formula mixed with cereal and another half of one!
-are close to mastering this 'sitting' business.  It seems hard due to the fact that you are an observant owl with a constantly going big sister you have to keep you eyes on at all times.  You do the best after she's in bed!
-definitely have your different cries.  My favorite is your tired/whiney cry.  It is so fake and dramatic.
-can scoot yourself backwards and around in 360s while on your tummy.
-approve of most things with your high pitch squeals.
-can almost get up on all fours when you're on your tummy.
-drink water from a sippy cup, with most of it coming right back out while sporting a rather disgusted look on your face. Oh so cute though!
-can pinpoint almost all of the state's capitols on a map.
-Okay, so I lied on that last one, but the scary thing is that at the rate you're going, that day will be here before we're ready!

What a joy you have brought to our lives Aleah.  We cannot even fathom a life without your adorable smile, sobering squeals, and beautiful personality!  God gave us the perfect addition to our family in you!  We are so in love with you!  Happy first Half Birthday!

We framed this and gave it to Papa and Nana for their anniversary this year.
Simple, yet so beautiful!

Sunday was a JUMP for joy!

this past sunday (july 10th) we spent lunch and the afternoon with great gpa and gma fast in glasgow after church.

lately natalie enjoys running at FULL speed wherever she goes.  especially on their wood floor.

she also enjoys playing 'ready, set, go.'
(not much too the game...i just say those three words and she takes off.  she does this over and over.)

following dinner, great gma got out some 'new' (garage-saled...the best kind!) toys.

one of them was a helicopter that played music.

when natalie heard the music she began dancing and clapping, while spinning around.

in the midst of all this i said 'JUMP' to her.

and to our surprise SHE DID!

BOTH feet actually came up off of the ground!!

repeat. repeat. repeat.
she kept JUMPing and JUMPing and JUMPing.
the delight on all of our faces must have been amusing to her because she didn't stop.

hopefully i'll get some pictures and a video soon!
